On April 4th, 2023, Clyde City Council adopted Ordinance 2023-37 creating Chapter 1310, "Condemnation and Demolition," of the City's codified ordinances. Since then, the City has moved to condemn six (6) properties and is working on more.
Of these condemned properties, three (3) are being sold with the obligation to raze the blighted structures, and three (3) others are scheduled for demolition due to unresponsive and uncooperative owners. So far, in 2023, the City has spent $35,000 on property purchases and expects to spend $75,000 to $100,000 on remediation. Around $30,000 of these expenses are expected to be recouped. Tax liens will be placed on properties for non-payment of remediation work, but it is unlikely that they will get paid and the property will end up being foreclosed on in time.
To avoid souring deals being made, a full breakdown of which properties and the costs incurred will be made available throughout the year as work is completed.
