The History of Paden Lane
Initially created when the former land owner Barnhart Kline sold land to the Village for the Town Hall, the 1876 deed shows that he agreed to give a strip of 5 feet off the south side, and the Village agreed to provide 5 feet off the north side to create a public right of way. It opened as an alley in 1882 after the completion of the Town Hall but never received a name.
After the City sold the Hall to the Clyde Heritage League for $1 in 1979 and work began to adapt the Hall for use (as Heritage Hall), the League proposed to name the alley after Mayor Henry Paden, who was Mayor when the 1882 Hall and the alley opened. A City ordinance dated May 15, 1984, officially named it Paden Lane, and a dedication ceremony was held on July 27, 1984, to celebrate the occasion.
